How much of what you own do you really wear? How much of it sits in your closet for weeks, months, years untouched. Or maybe there’s some things you’ve forgotten you even own (we’re definitely guilty of this one🤦🏼♀️)
A closet clean out is a great way to get some objective perspective on your buying habits. This two-step-how-to is all you need to get started.
ONE: Start by pulling EVERYTHING out. Yes, even those things you actually wear all the time. Go through each item, one by one. If you haven’t worn it in a long time, it may be time to say goodbye* (how long is it up to you! Many people do 6 or 12 months to account for changes in season). ⠀⠀
*for info on how to responsibly dispose of old clothes - see our post on conscious thrifting here⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
TWO: For the stuff you love and wear a lot - identify what you love about it. Are there certain colours, shapes or fits they have in common? Next time you need to buy, use this info to help identify things you’re likely to keep and love for a long time & to decide if what you’re buying is wearable with what you already have (so you don’t end up buying a whole new outfit to go with that one new thing you actually needed). ⠀
It's not the whole story but it's a great place to start.
